ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE
SATURDAY MARCH 13, 2010
(VIEW VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF PAGE)
The 30th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade theme this year is "Celebrating 30 Years of Community Unity with Special Thanks to our Veterans and Military" at Balboa Park. Staff Commodore Jeff Connery has, as in many years past, chaired the PLYC Parade Committee and will also be driving the PLYC Float. We are still making arrangements to have our band who will provide live Irish song and music. All PLYC members are encouraged to participate. There is ample room on the float and walking alongside (be sure to wear your “green”), or find yourself along the parade route to watch it all.
The two-hour parade starts at 11:00am at 6th and Juniper westbound, turning north on 5th, east on Upas, south on 6th and ending at Laurel adjacent to the Family Festival. Two entertainment stages featuring traditional and contemporary Irish musicians and singers beginning at 1pm. A Celtic Village will be offering a glimpse into Irish life 1000 years ago plus plenty of Irish food, beer, and crafts.
We have a slight change in the location of the staging area as with previous years. Show up and help decorate the PLYC float on 6th just north of Juniper west side (between Juniper and Kalmia)* at 8:30am. Parking near the parade area becomes a real problem after 9am, so come early. There is a coffee cart one half block away this year to satisfy your morning needs.
There is a bar right on Kalmia that has big corned beef sandwiches and good bloody mary's that they let you TAKE OUT! ( bathrooms too) Come along for the ride!
SEE YOU THERE!
